EMDR Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) uses the brain’s natural ability to heal. It allows for the integration of healthy thoughts and beliefs to overwrite “stuck” negative memories, thoughts, and feelings.
Integrated EMDR
Integrated EMDR allows for the reduction and removal of the impact of painful memories, experiences, and views of self. EMDR is regularly used to treat PTSD, anxiety, depression, attachment wounds, OCD, and other stress-related concerns.
Intensive EMDR
An EMDR Intensive is a condensed version of EMDR that takes place for two - six hours over the course of a single day. In this time, someone will feel an immense amount of growth and relief that starts positively and exponentially impacting every day life.
Which is right for me – Intensive or Integrated?
-
Intensive
Intensives are perfect for people who feel like they don’t have the time to dedicate to frequent therapy sessions and those who have had a bad experience in adulthood that causes issues in their life, relationships or work. Intensives are also appropriate for people who feel like they can “handle it” when they experience a bad day.
Intensives are like paying upfront for your wellness.
-
Integrated
Integrated is perfect for people who want to combine EMDR with talk therapy and other trauma-focused modalities, and for those who feel like they have a complex web of concerns that need multiple sessions to untangle.
Integrated is also appropriate for people who feel like they “spiral” when they experience a bad day.
Integrated is like the layaway plan for your wellness.
Common questions about EMDR Therapy
-
EMDR cost is in relation to the time it takes to achieve a goal. The cost is calculated by the day, at $1,200 per day. Insurance does not cover the cost of intensive treatment. The amount of time it takes to achieve the goal will depend on your concern. Intensives are designed in a condensed format so that most goals are achieved within the day.
-
The first step is to call the Counseling and Wellness Center to ask about EMDR and if interested, schedule an intake appointment. For integrated EMDR, you and your therapist will design a long-term plan for treatment. For Intensive EMDR, you and your therapist will create short term goals for the session and schedule the Intensive.
-
Your therapist is trained to utilize EMDR in a way that minimized “activation” of a concern and maximizes positive growth. Your therapist’s primary concern is that you feel comfortable, safe, and in control throughout the entire experience.
EMDR has been researched and promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO), Kaiser-Permanente, and multiple international institutes for mental health.
