MaKenna Gibson, Provisionally Licensed Counselor
Provisionally Licensed Counselor
I am a Provisionally Licensed Counselor in West Virginia with a passion for supporting individuals across the lifespan, with a special focus on young adult. I have experience working with concerns such as trauma responses, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, grief, interpersonal relationship struggles and behavioral challenges.
My approach is integrative and thoughtfully tailored to each person and grounded in a trauma informed framework. My work consists of drawing from theories like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-focused techniques and other supportive modalities.
I believe in each person's capacity for meaningful growth and healing. By building a strong therapeutic relationship and fostering a supportive, collaborative environment, we can work together toward your goals and overall well-being.
As a therapist, I see my role as an assistant or guide that is an authentic and compassionate witness to your experiences. I strive to create a safe, welcoming space where you can explore your thoughts and emotions, deepen your self-understanding, and develop greater self-compassion. Throughout the process, I support you in building practical skills and strategies for lasting change. I bring authenticity, empathy, care, and sometimes even a sense of humor into each session so that you feel seen, heard, and truly understood! My communication style is typically more direct and honest, as I aim to be transparent and open with my clients.
